I really like learning and numbers and colours. I like learning through Language Angels because it helps me to remember. French is my favourite language to learn and I hope I can visit France one day.

I love learning new languages because I want to travel and be able to translate what other people are saying. I enjoy learning new French words and working on how to say the words properly using Language Angels.

I really enjoy my French lessons and am confident saying my numbers up to ten and introducing myself. I am looking forward to learning more next year. I think it’s important to be able to attempt to speak the language when visiting French speaking countries.

I like the interactive games and activities we play on Language Angels. They are simple and easy to play and help me to remember what I have learned. I now feel more confident speaking French and attempting to say the words.
Our Intent:
The intention of the MFL curriculum at Sugar Hill is to inspire our pupils to engage in French lessons that inspire them and make them feel excited and enthusiastic about learning a new language.
At Sugar Hill, the four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing are taught and all necessary grammar will be covered in an age-appropriate way across the primary phase. Pupils understanding of languages is developed by:
- Taking part in oral activities to develop their skills in speaking a different language.
- Taking part in listening activities to develop their skills in listening to a different language.
- Taking part in reading activities to develop their skills in reading a different language.
- Taking part in writing activities to develop their skills in writing in a different language.

Implementation:
Our MFL curriculum has been carefully planned and structured to reflect children’s development of language at different stages of their development. Our youngest children are encouraged to sing songs and practise simple greetings to each other in French. As they progress through school, our pupils are given the opportunity to expand their language skills ensuring that they practise the four key sills; listening, speaking, reading and writing in French. Pupils have access to a very high-quality foreign languages curriculum using the Language Angels scheme of work and resources. This progressively develops pupil skills in foreign languages through regularly taught and well-planned weekly lessons in Year 3 to 6. Using the Language Angels scheme and resources, children progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary, language skills and grammatical knowledge organised around age-appropriate topics and themes.

Impact
Using the Language Angels scheme of work and resources ensures we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that inspires and excites our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes. Pupils continuously build on their previous knowledge as they progress in their foreign language learning journey through the primary phase and are assessed throughout. Previous language will be recycled, revised, recalled and consolidated whenever possible and appropriate to help children retain their knowledge and skills.
